PICK OF THE WEEK

This week, we bring you a gem of a photo-set we recently stumbled upon, from a Surrealist Ball, held at the iconic Château de Ferrières in France, and hosted by Marie-Hélène de Rothschild in 1972. You can have a look at all the photos HERE, but we thought we'd show you some of our favourites.
How cool was this party?! And how many people can say that they've had Salvador Dali in attendance at their soirée?

We're going to have to give our best dressed award (if we had one) to Daft Punk. There's just nothing quite like metallic hands and robot heads to add that certain je ne sais quoi to an ensemble.

PICK OF THE WEEK

When we saw this video, we knew we'd have to share it with all of you. Bespoke tailors of Savile Row is about—you guessed it—some of the bespoke tailors of Savile Row, specifically, one of the shops on this famed Mayfair street, Gieves & Hawkes.

Savile Row has been synonymous with some of the best in men’s tailoring for nearly 200 years. Gieves & Hawkes has outfitted people from Winston Churchill to Jude Law, and of course, the Royal Family, so getting a brief glimpse into this world is quite remarkable. Watch as these tailors look over every small detail, demonstrate impeccable craftsmanship, and show personal attention to each and every piece they make.

PICK OF THE WEEK: DO YOU DARE?

It's safe to say that if you like bacon, you probably love bacon. Couple that love with the love of a summer carnival, and you should have the perfect combination, right?

The CNE is a Toronto summer staple, and people have been flocking there every year for the rides, the games, and more importantly--the FOOD. However, with the food options getting crazier and crazier every year, are you brave enough to try these bacon concoctions?

1. The bacon and peanut butter milkshake.
A straight-forward combination of peanut butter, ice cream, and of course, bacon.
2. The "Baked and loaded."
A sweet potato filled with marshmallows and pecans, topped with bacon bits.
3. The "spice cream cone."
Vanilla ice cream, topped with chilies, bacon bits, and nutella, inside a pizza crust cone.
So, what do you think of all of these bacon-loaded confections? Treat, or recipe for a heart-attack?

HOW TO: SAVE YOUR DENIM

For the most part, people tend to give and up and give away/throw out their denim once it gets to this state:

Unless you've decided to wear strategically-placed tears and holes in your jeans, you may not want to walk around with holes in your jeans. So, before you give up and (reluctantly*) toss them in the trash, we think you should try darning your denim first. Darning is a process where you basically re-weave new yarns into an area that has been worn thin or completely blown out.

There's a neat, little tutorial on Youtube (HERE) that you can try if you happen to be good with a sewing machine. However, if you're not, darning is a relatively easy task for a tailor to do, so don't worry.

*We added "reluctantly," because we know that sometimes, letting go of a pair of your favourite pairs of jeans, wrecked as they are, is a near impossible task for some people—you know who you are.
Darning is a much better solution to the iron-on patch, and for the most part, your jeans end up looking good as new!

TREND REPORT: TEAM PLAYERS

We've written about pro athletes and how they dress off the court/field, but now it seems the regular guys have been taking their on-the-court/field attire out on the streets.
Hardly a new trend, but certainly a re-emrging one, the sports jersey as a shirt (or a dress for women) is slowly starting to make its way into street style blogs everywhere. Whether it be basketball, football, or baseball, jerseys are being worn as a kind of new casual-wear. Time to leave those white t-shirts at home and take out your favourite athlete's jersey instead.
What do you think of this trend?
